Model Checker

Runs duplicate, containment and ruleset-based clash checks in Revit, with linked-model review, status tracking, supported AutoFix actions and BCF 2.1 reporting.

Model Checker conceptual interface

Overview

Model Checker is a Revit API QA/QC add-in for structured model validation and clash review inside Autodesk Revit. The tool supports three primary check modes: exact duplicate geometry, geometry completely inside another model element, and ruleset-based physical clash checking. Users can filter checks by category and level, configure clash and opening tolerances, and define reusable rulesets that compare selected source and target categories with optional workset filters. Revit links can be included as reference-only targets so host-model elements can be reviewed against consultant or federated geometry without modifying linked files. Results are presented in a modeless interface where users can inspect, select and review detected conditions, maintain Pending or Resolved clash statuses, save and reload named clash registers, and update an existing dataset to remove resolved or no-longer-clashing results. Supported host-model conditions can use AutoFix, while duplicate and containment modes can remove selected candidates after confirmation. The current workflow also supports BCF 2.1 reporting, including issue topics, element information, viewpoints, clipping planes and snapshots, so validated clash results can be exchanged outside the checker while retaining useful Revit context.

Key features

  • Three model-check modes — run Exact Duplicate Geometry, Geometry Completely Inside Element, or Ruleset Clash Check workflows.
  • Exact duplicate detection — identify model elements with matching duplicate geometry for controlled cleanup.
  • Containment checking — identify geometry that is completely inside another model element.
  • Ruleset-based clash detection — define reusable physical clash rules between selected source and target categories.
  • Category filtering — limit checks to selected model categories where applicable.
  • Level filtering — run or review checks against selected project levels or all levels.
  • Configurable clash tolerance — control the physical clash tolerance used by ruleset checking.
  • Opening tolerance — configure tolerance used when evaluating openings and related clash conditions.
  • Revit Link review — include linked-model geometry as reference-only clash targets while keeping edits in the host model.
  • Ruleset manager — create and maintain reusable rule sets with enabled rules, source categories and target categories.
  • Workset filters — optionally constrain source and target sides of a rule to selected worksets.
  • Modeless QA/QC interface — keep the checker available while continuing review work in Revit.
  • 3D clash review — select participants, isolate the review set, apply a focused 3D section box and zoom to the result.
  • Named clash registers — save and reload clash datasets for continued project coordination review.
  • Pending / Resolved status tracking — retain coordination status for saved clash records.
  • Update Dataset — re-check listed clashes and remove resolved or no-longer-clashing rows from the active dataset.
  • Supported AutoFix — automatically correct selected supported host-model wall, floor and beam clash conditions.
  • Controlled duplicate / containment cleanup — remove approved candidates after confirmation, with an option to unpin before deletion.
  • BCF 2.1 export — create one BCF topic per listed clash with status, ruleset information, element references, viewpoint and PNG snapshot.
  • Project BCF append workflow — add selected clashes to the project BCFZIP while preserving existing topics and skipping duplicate clash keys.
  • Detailed BCF element context — include category, element name, type, Element ID, grid location and grid-distance information in topic text and comments.
  • Host-link BCF handling — retain linked element metadata while using portable host/link component references for broader BCF viewer compatibility.
  • Visual clash snapshots — highlight the editable source and opposing target, fade surrounding context and tightly crop each BCF preview.
  • Severity-based BCF priority — assign Critical, High, Medium or Low priority when selected clashes are added to the project BCF.
WORKFLOW

How the plugin fits into production

  1. 01

Open the Revit Model — open the host model and load any Revit Links required for coordination review.

  2. 02

Launch Model Checker — open VisionArch > QA/QC Tools > Model Checker.

  3. 03

Choose Check Mode — select Exact Duplicate Geometry, Geometry Completely Inside Element, or Ruleset Clash Check.

  4. 04

Configure Scope — choose the applicable category, level, Revit Link inclusion and tolerance settings.

  5. 05

Configure Ruleset — for clash checking, select or edit the ruleset, source/target categories and optional workset filters.

  6. 06

Run the Check — scan the configured model scope and populate the result dataset.

  7. 07

Review Results in Revit — select or double-click a result to isolate the participants, open/use a 3D review view, apply the section box and zoom to the condition.

  8. 08

Resolve or AutoFix — manually correct the model, use supported AutoFix actions where appropriate, or remove approved duplicate/containment candidates after confirmation.

  9. 09

Track Coordination Status — mark clash records Pending or Resolved and save the named clash register for continued review.

  10. 10

Update Dataset — re-check the active clash rows so resolved or no-longer-clashing results can be removed.

  11. 11

Export / Append BCF — export the clash set as BCF 2.1 or add selected clashes to the project BCFZIP with viewpoints, snapshots and element context.

  12. 12

Complete QA/QC — review remaining active clashes and confirm the dataset is suitable for coordination exchange or project issue.

Interested in Model Checker?

Currently under development and controlled testing. Clash results, AutoFix operations, duplicate or containment deletion, linked-model references and exported BCF topics should be reviewed before use for formal project coordination or issue. Revit Links are treated as reference-only targets and are not modified by the checker.
